2013: Marathon vs. MBA

Well, 2013, you are crazy!

It appears as though 2013 has changed my ideas on what it will bring.  At the beginning of the year I vowed to run my first marathon, with D by my side.  We picked out Chicago, made hotel reservations, and waited for February 19 to register!

Little did I know that I'd get the urge (encouraged by D) to apply for the MBA program at King College and get accepted! So I started that journey, with D by my side.  He's been in the program since September 2012, so I figured why not!

Then registration week rolled around and as you may have heard runners trying to register for Chicago actually broke active.com.  We overwhelmed the site and registration had to be shut down.  Chicago organizers would renounce how registration would continue on February 28.  We didn't get registered in the first round on February 19.

Since that critical day - I got horribly sick with either the flu or a sinus infection.  I was miserable for at least 3 days.  Currently going on week 2 of just feeling like crud.  During this time I've still had school and work, but I've not been running.  Check out that sad running page and you'll see, its been a while!

During this lull (or break) I've come to the realization that Chicago might need to wait a year.  It quite possibly could be too much for my body to handle.  A demanding career, MBA, life in general, and first time marathon training??  I knew it was a lot - but then I got sick.  And if I were to get this sick in August or September, I doubt the marathon would happen.  So with all this in mind I think (and Doug too, don't think I've left him out of these conversations!) that marathon 2013 will be postponed to 2014.

If we put our first marathon off another year we'll be able to enjoy the long training runs and really focus on the fun of the journey!

So there it is.  Marathon vs. MBA - MBA wins for 2013 but look out 2014 cause we'll be coming after you!  : )
