September in Pictures

September was very busy for the Barron household.  We had 5ks, 10ks, a trip to Las Vegas, and Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion!  Enjoy the pictures!

Now - to work on October's update!

That's a pretty good Saturday if you ask me!

We started our weekend off with the new hotness of the farmer’s market.  Our farmer’s market routine has become this:  get coffee from java j’s, wander down to the market, get a couple $1 still warm fritters (D seems to prefer apple while I love the peach) and then wander the market searching for food to cook over the weekend.  Usually we end up with a couple of steaks, some corn, potatoes, some red velvet cake, sometimes some salsa and if it’s a good morning we’ll top it off with some chocolate milk on the walk back home.  Once we made it home D suggested he and Peaches have some quality time while I go on a little run.  So off I went.

When I returned D was getting anxious for lunch so we went downstairs to Machiavelli’s for some Italian nacho’s and beer.  When we finished we took a nice stroll down State Street.  We wandered in and out of a few stores but by far had the most fun in Inari.  For those of you that don’t know – it’s our little downtown wine, cheese, beer, spice, gift store.  It is awesome.  I *think* we walked out with four bottles of wine, one six-pack of beer and a new foil cutter.  And that’s a pretty good stroll if you ask me!

We even went back to Inari later that evening for their weekly wine tasting.  They had several Italian wines that we tried.  Unfortunately, we’d already made our purchases for the day and headed home to our steaks and previously purchased wine!

August 26:

When Friday rolled around Peaches was beside herself with excitement!  It was day one of High School with Miss Riley.  (Intermediate Puppy School at Pet Smart)  She practiced everything we learned in Elementary School (Beginners Puppy School) and then practiced it with distractions.  Peaches did awesome!

Miss Riley then taught us how to walk with the command “heel”.  This will just ensure that Mommy and Daddy stay right with Peaches when we walk.  We have to walk side by side at all times and when Peaches stops Mommy and Daddy stop too.

Peaches took us on a short two mile jog to end off the wonderful week!

Here's Peaches Graduation from Beginners Puppy School:

August 24:

Wednesday evening I worked out with Felicia and came home while Doug studied for his PMP Certification exam.  He was scheduled to take the exam on Thursday morning.  He spent last week in Atlanta taking a, from what I heard, very intense course about the exam. From what Doug’s told me this certification is huge.

PMP stands for Project Management Professional.  The application process and basic requirements to even enroll in the course and exam were very strenuous.   According to Wikipedia: “As of 31 July 2010, there were 393,413 active PMP certified individuals worldwide.” ß is pretty freaking huge!  So needless to say Doug was pretty stressed.

Doug finally made it home and we headed to Machiavelli’s for drinks and dinner.

August 25:

Thursday came and went.  What a day!

Doug had his PMP Certification exam scheduled from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.  He woke at 6a.m. and started preparing.  He was ready whether he believed it or not, I saw it.  I headed off to work for a very long morning while Doug studied some more and then headed to his exam.

As I nervously watched the clock I knew Doug was pouring his knowledge out into this exam.  I was worried – he’d told me how difficult the exam would be, the pass/fail rate, that all the “big” companies require it . . . you get the picture!

FINALLY around 11:15 a.m. he called.

His tone was solemn, typical Doug, calling to tell me about an exam and his results.  I couldn’t figure out what was going on and if he’d passed or failed.  He finally told me he’d done his best and figured he just needed to go to the bar . . .  and have a beer.  I was confused to say the least.  Then finally he said “TO CELEBTRATE!” – shew – THANK GOODNESS!   He passed! Yippee!  Woohoo!!!

By the time I got home the celebration was in full swing – the celebration of Food City Family Race Night that is!  State street was filled with NASCAR fans, vendors, drivers and cars.  Doug and I went to Wing Doctor for some ribs and beer while Peaches took a nap.  When we got back to the loft the party was in full swing.  Rodney Atkins was playing a concert on the State Street Stage.  It was great.  We are going to have an awesome view for Rhythm and Roots!!

A typical downtown Tuesday evening!

Back in July Doug and I were hanging out and this is our conversation (paraphrased of course):

D:  Hey let's get tickets to see Gillian Welch!
Me: Okay, where at? . . .  Who is she?
D: She's got a bluegrass sound, similar to Alison Krauss probably. . . she's going to be at the Paramount in August!!
Me: Okay, well consider the tickets purchased!

And that's how it all started!  I went online and purchased said tickets, good seats and started to listen to her on grooveshark.com.

Fast Forward to last night:
We got home from work and Doug rushed to get on his "country attire". (we really should invest in some cowboy boots and country outfits) He then comes into the living room and states that I should hurry our wings are waiting on us at Stateline!  : )

So of course I rush to change and then we walk down to Stateline for some pre-show wings and beer!  We had whiskey wings and bud light lime for dinner.  Seven-thirty came all to quick so we paid our bill and continued to the concert.

An evening with Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings started around 7:15p.m. and played to a full house at the Paramount!  They were great!  What a great sound they have!

Doug even purchased a wonderful autographed poster that we are excited to display with our Rhythm & Roots posters!

Thanks Gillian and Dave!  It was a wonderful show!  You have prepped us for the 2011 Rhythm & Roots Reunion!!!

Weekend recap: friends, food and pawn stars!

Friday night:  I headed down to GNO at Blowfish Emporium.  We brought a few appetizers and our own adult beverages, all picked random things to paint and laughed the evening away.

Afterwards Brandie and I met up with Doug and Rocky for some dinner at Stateline!  What a fabulous night!

Saturday:  Peaches has been barking about wanting the wind in her hair for sometime now - so Doug and I thought we'd let her live out her dream for a while.  We let her test drive a 4 door jeep wrangler.  We had to see if it would get us to all the farmer's markets you know!  Then we met up with Ed for some ribs and beer at the Wing Doctor and headed home for an afternoon nap!  The evening was filled with Pawn Stars, nieces and laughter.

Sunday:  Another lazy day!!  Sunday was filled with more Pawn Stars (I had to catch up to Doug's spot), some great steaks and potatoes we'd picked up at the farmer's market and a nice Rioja!  We topped it off with a nice family walk downtown!

Now we are ready for a fun filled week!

WELCOME!

For a while now I've wanted to start a blog, so here goes nothing - right??

I'm not a great writer, story teller or even the best speller.  But hopefully my descriptions about our adventures in life will be enough to captivate our audience!

Today I started a blog!  What have you done new today?
