Australia March 2014: Day 1, attempt at travel

March 7, 2014

Flight was set to leave at 2:25PM.  At 2:10PM there was an announcement that the flight would be delayed 40 minutes due to maintenance.

Our layover in ATL was set to be 45 minutes.  This delay was going to cause us to miss our next flight and not get to LAX for our flight to AUS.  Since D and I had some adult beverages with a side of happy pills we were frustrated but okay.  Maury at the Delta counter helped us and got us on a whole new set of flights for Saturday.  The worst part of this is that we will now be arriving in AUS on Monday at 7:50AM - Doug’s first meeting is at 9AM.

So on we went with our adventure.

We ended up having a fabulous night.  We got massages, ate at a new Italian restaurant on DI, LIDI, followed by dessert at Whitney’s (aka Sermet’s).

It was also good for me.  Travis (who is staying at the condo and keeping Peaches) ended up spending the night at the condo with us.  This calmed my nerves, as he was able to watch Peaches interact with us, in her own environment.

Breakfast - I forgot my english muffin at home, had breakfast club at work which was pigs in a blanket and OJ.
Lunch - D and I split a club sandwich and had beers at the CHS airport
Dinner - J: linguini and clams in a white wine sauce, D: little steak and fries at LIDI
Dessert - Dolce de leche and chocolate ganache cheesecake at Sermets

Ice-magedon: Charleston, SC 2014

Oddly enough Doug was on almost the very last flight out of Charleston before this storm hit.  Yes, he arrived safely in Austin, Texas.  But not without a close call in ATL - they cancelled about 900 flights.

Peaches and I actually got two work from home days.  She really wasn't sure what to think.

All the bridges in Charleston actually shut down because of ice.  It was wild.

Pictures of the Ice this week. . . I did not take any of them. Found them on the internet.

Kristen's Weekend Visit

On Friday Kristen arrived around 3:30!  Woohoo!  She got situated and then we went on with our adventures!

First thing was taking Miss Peaches to the dog park.

Then we met Doug for a beer at DIG and went on downtown for packet pick-up.  Honestly, packet pick-up was a mess.  There was no signage for how to get your bibs, or get your bibs before you get your shirt and bag.  I will say one of the vendor's gave away miniature body glides for free!  They are too cute!

Next was onto dinner.  We attempted to eat at two restaurants downtown but both had 2 hour waits and we were not interested in that.  We ended up eating at Vespa on Daniel Island.  This is a favorite of mine and I think Kristen enjoyed it too.  After dinner we got ready for the race and hit the sack.

Saturday morning we did the Charleston Half Marathon.  Our goof friend Tiffany and her kids Will and Ella came to watch us finish.  After realizing we were freezing and not participating in the post-race party we headed out for some mexican lunch.  Then we hung out at the condo and just visited.

That evening we met another friend Meg and her husband Darian and son Henri for dinner at Sermet's.  Another fantastic meal!

Sunday we both attempted to sleep in and failed.  We had a nice brunch at home and then headed downtown for some site seeing and shopping.  On our way home we hit up a local fish market for dinner.

Then we did something super crazy and went on a Sunday Runday Recovery Run!  We did a nice 4.91 miles around Daniel Island.

After that we grilled out our fish from the market, relaxed, and called it a night.

Kristen left when I headed to work Monday morning.  It was a very nice, and much needed girls weekend!

Here are some pictures to enjoy:
